Summer’s heat is scorching in our desert, but that’s one of the reflections that shows up in Mike’s copper work. You can read about it here<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. The daytime is just too hot to enjoy in our yard; so early, very early<\/em> morning and late evening are our outdoor times.<\/p>\n

Morning chores include the garden, yard work, caring for the chickens, and most importantly-walking the dogs<\/em>! They let us know they’re ready to go, even if it’s not as far or fast as it used to be. They come to life in those cool morning hours.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The garden is producing lots of delicious goodies and it’s a race to harvest before the pesky squirrels, but we’re up for the battle.\u00a0 This weekend I\u00a0hope\u00a0to clear out some spent plants and put climbing beans on my copper trellis.<\/div>\n

I saw a copper obelisk on our recent visit to Seattle, with peas climbing on strings that were woven around the frame and it reminded me to keep my veges growing up as much as possible- easier on the knees and less space used.<\/div>\n

The sound of water is a must in this heat. Our Copper Water Feature<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0is getting great use from the birds and toads. It may have a redo soon. Mike saw a pond insert at the nursery and thought it would make a nice base, a place to set\u00a0some rocks and water plants to\u00a0make more room for our growing toad family- they’re such great bug catchers. The Serentiy table<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>w<\/span><\/span>ith it’s sturdy build, and soothing copper water feature is a perfect elemental piece. In a gift shop in Seattle, I saw some thin copper wire-LED\u00a0lights that I’m anxious to find and string on the patio. That’s a good place to\u00a0relax late at night and I think with the tiny lights and soft sound of water, we’ll be able to endure this heat and still get some enjoyment from our backyard without being too instrusive on the nighttime happenins’. It’s just not healthy to stay indoors all day and night.<\/div>\n<\/p>\n

One of the things I love about our business is gathering inspiration for new ideas, both for new product lines and personal use. Traveling is one of my favorite ways to do that. Seattle offered\u00a0a whole post in itself, and I will share that next time.<\/div>\n
