Copper Cactus Chandelier 2

Copper Cactus Chandelier

Mike made this copper cactus chandelier a couple of years ago as a custom order for a client. We were walking by the cactus gardens near the shop recently, and I was struck by how much they looked like this light. He has such a great eye for detail in recreating nature. This chandelier is about 20″ in diameter and 24″ high. It has 4 arms and 2 top leaves each with a light in the blossom end. The spines are all brass. It is completely hand formed from copper.

When we were first starting our family, Mike wanted to plant cactus in the yard; he loved the low maintenance and is a desert rat like his father, but I had vivid childhood memories of a cousin falling in our neighbors cactus garden in Arizona, and my Uncle Evan pulling spines from his hide for hours. I insisted our yard should be kid friendlier than that. Needless to say, our yard was dirt for years, and the kids headed out to the desert to play, surrounded by cactus anyway.

Now Mike  has some beautiful cactus growing here and there on our acre, and I have come to love and appreciate them for their exceptional beauty and their easy care as well. But I especially admire the inspiration Mike receives from their splendor in his art.
