Copper Water Feature Invites Happy Hour

Happy Hour at the Watering Hole

I love it when the Spring temperatures get warm enough for Mike to re-install our water feature. The birds gather every afternoon as if it was Happy Hour. We can’t help but join them and just breathe in the Peace and Quiet.

In the morning, they are waiting in the branches of the Chaparral as if to say, “Where have you been? The day is starting.” I plug in the pump and the cool water flows so beautifully from the ceramic bowl at the top, down the sides of the copper pillar-patinated through the years with moss and minerals, and into the copper pan at the bottom. The pan is surrounded by fresh mint, and is home to toads that also love the water.

Water Feature

Over the years we have seen some very unusual birds in our fountain, but the locals are the gorgeous tiny yellow finches, the coral throat-ed house finches, and sparrows and chickadees. I love to sit in the kitchen with my coffee, and watch them through the window, early in the morning. They splash and hop around in the bowl, thoroughly enjoying their morning bath. Then they come back and perch on the copper branches and drink in the fresh bubbling water that is pumped out so gently from tiny openings in the copper.

View from the Watering Hole

The view from the watering hole is breathtaking and we are so glad to be able to enjoy the serenity, and provide a place for the locals to gather.

This month will be dedicated to posting about more of Mike’s beautiful water features, so check back often.
