Copper and Glass for Summer

Mike loves to play with glass and this was one of his hot creations from the kiln. The Fiesta Orange glass is so bold next to the Marigold Yellow, it really brightens up a patio for summer. I love the spiral pattern! It is so painstakingly produced. I cut the orange circle for Mike and he used tiny pieces of yellow glass-called frit, to form the spiral. The cool thing is you can’t tell if the base was orange-and yellow the spiral; or yellow with the orange making the spiral. That takes patience.

We carefully set the circle in the kiln so as not to disturb the design, then fired it at 1500* for a smooth finish. Then the cool part is, it was refired over a mold so it has a convex shape. After that he added his copper magic and, “Voila”-a beautiful copper and glass sun!

Another cool one is this Galaxy pattern. Day and Night . . . these little works of art make a patio wall, or a fence look awesome. They measure about 6″ in diameter, and 17 1/2″ overall.
