Handmade Frit for Desert Sand
It’s finally cold enough to fire up the kiln . . . I know that sounds crazy but . . .WE LIVE IN THE DESERT, and honestly, I just can’t get inspired when the temperature is 110° outside.

Desert Sand in Glass
But this is the inspiration that comes with winter, and red sand, and storms and intense sunlight . . . you get the picture. A walk with the dogs can turn into hours of research and experimenting in the studio.

Careful Frit Measurement
Most of my frit (tiny sand sized grains of glass) is handmade, it takes hours to create, and so it must be carefully measured. The process is long and perfect for a winter day.

Frit Color Combinations
Color combinations are another great part of the challenge. They make opening the kiln feel just like Christmas morning.

Copper and Glass
And sometimes it really pays off. I love this new look and can’t wait to show you the other colors we’re experimenting with. Do you have any ideas for projects we could apply these pieces to? Let us know what you think.
