Copper Garage Doors

Here is the second set of copper garage doors Mike has done for Jenson Construction in the Stone Cliffs development of St. George. This is a scene from the local mountains surrounding the area.

I help Mike by sketching out the design on paper, then we manually enlarge that on the separate garage door panels. Mike then makes a relief from a lightweight foam, and covers each piece separately with his beautiful copper pieces. He works closely with the builder and garage door company to make sure the weight of the doors is accounted for. They need to run smoothly.

It always amazes me how Mike sees the dimension of the mountains and landscape in the different patinas he creates with heat on the copper, and knows just which textures will be the most aesthetic for each section. The homeowner is greeted, each time they drive in, with a beautiful work of art.
